The JSCN and JSCN-SIG activities

The Japanese Society of Cancer Nursing Special Interest Group (JSCN-SIG) is an official group of the Japanese Society of Cancer Nursing (JSCN). The activities of the JSCN-SIG are conducted based on the purpose stipulated, that is, to improve the expertise of nurses through information exchanges and sharing opportunities for learning as well as contributing to improvement of various aspects of cancer nursing as reflected by the theme groups.

Examples of theme group activities include networking to gather members into themes of interest, improvement of credentials by mutual exchange, and continuing education such as information provision, planning for enhancement of professional nursing in various nursing specialties, and provision of professional nursing programs run by specialty nurses with experience. The theme groups were established primarily for the members and secondarily for returning the results of the activities of the JSCN members to society.

The theme groups are organized under the JSCN, and are not completely independent organizations. Therefore, in cases where an activity is beyond the purpose stipulated, it will be considered at a board meeting. In addition, a theme group is not a research group. Although the JSCN-SIG has just started its activities, the way the JSCN-SIG operates is key for future development of the JSCN. It is anticipated that members will widen the circle of activities under the rules.
